Luard/Ritual [G-BT14 Updated] #deck recipe

I've actually had this profile for a while just haven't really gotten around to posting it =P Luard holds a pretty special place for me cause it was the first time I could really felt the difference between a good and amazing player when piloting this deck, the updated version of the deck pushes this theme further where a sub-optimal decision can easy lose a game mainly because the current state of the game is so punishing. Card advantage remains the most important aspect of playing Luard but emphasis on mini-loops and mid-late game are gone, instead we have a stronger, more aggressive early-mid game and more consistent way to keep up with card advantage and power.

Notes

The most important rule; ALWAYS fight for stride priority. Gaunan and Nemain gives us so many cards there's no reason not to. A decent first stride in to Dragabyss or Dragstrider should be able to end a game or snowball enough of a lead to win.

Notable Cards

  • Draganger, Ogma is a hard counter to low board presence. So decks such as Dark Irregulars, Nociel, Spike brothers etc.
  • Phantom Blaster "Diablo" is an auto-win card against Nociel/Gyze because Zeroth Dragons cannot be retired.
  • Howl Owl's main purpose is soul fodder.
  • Craiftine is basically another Belail Owl.

Game Plan

  • General Play:
    1. Preferred grade 1 ride target is Esras this way you can soul blast later and loop her back to hand. If you're against a deck that uses counter-blast early you can attack without boost to deny it.
    2. You want to play Gaunan or Nemain on grade 2 to start drawing cards and setting up the drop zone.
    3. Ride grade 3 and stride:
      - Dragabyss or Doomed to draw cards, card count to see which nets you more.
      - Ogma to pressure.
    4. Close the game out usually with Dragabyss or Ultima.
  • Typical first stride to generate card advantage with Dragabyss:
    1. Stride Dragabyss, Dragfall's ability, call Daellad (+1) and retire a unit, opponent (-1) > Daellad's ability, draw (+1) = Player +2 card : Opponent -1 card
    2. Dragabyss ability, retire Daellad (-1), call another Daellad and a grade 1 of your choice (+2) and retire a unit, opponent (-1) > Daellad's ability (+1) = Player +2 card : Opponent -1 card
    3. Attack with Dragabyss, drive check (+3) = Player +3 card : Opponent potential -2~ cardUs the player nets a total of +7 cards while our opponent potentially loses about 2+ cards. This advantage can be extended depending on what's in your hand for example Esras', Owls, Ravens Gaunan's etc. A decent hand will get you about 10 cards.

Mulligan - look for

  • Curve
  • Gaunan or Nemain.
  • Luard

Luard is Strong Against

  • Nociel/Gyze
  • Royal Paladins
  • Decks that don't generate a large hand and need counter-blast to function.

Luard is Weak Against

  • Chaos - pretty much scoop this match up
  • Dark Irregular - guard-con ignores the looping Esras'
  • Ange - basically functions the same way as Luard but does everything better.
